The Los Angeles Rams have hired former Nebraska football coach Scott Frost as a senior football analyst,Sports Illustrated’s Pete Thamel first reported the news. Frost has not had a coaching job since being fired by Nebraska on September 11, 2022.
The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue reports (subscription required) that Frost will hold a variety of staff roles, including special teams, where the Rams currently have a vacancy. She also reports that Frost spent time with the Rams in OTAs and training camp and that the move had been in the works for several days.
Frost had a tumultuous tenure at Nebraska, coaching the Cornhuskers from 2018-2022. He ended his time in Lincoln with a 16-31 record, including a 10-26 record in the Big Ten. The former quarterback succeeded at UCF before returning home, leading the Knights to a 13-0 record in 2017.
Frost had a tremendously successful playing career at Nebraska during the 1996 and 1997 seasons. He was a part of the 1997 national championship team and ended his Husker career with 3,147 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
He also ran the football effectively, carrying the ball 355 times for 1,789 yards and 30 touchdowns over the course of two years. He played in the NFL for five seasons before becoming a coach.
Although his tenure coaching at Nebraska ended poorly, he is still a valuable part of Cornhusker’s history. His new role will allow him to learn under one of the best head coaches in the NFL and hopefully set him up for future success.
